Surgery for Ovarian Remnant Syndrome
Donation protected
On November 6th, 2023, Midna was taken in to Banfield for her spay. During the surgery, the veterinarian found out that she was missing a kidney and had undeveloped ovarian/kidney tissue that wasn't attached to anything. The veterinarian took out the developed ovary and Midna's uterus, but left the unconnected tissue.
I was told that it was unlikely it would affect her at all, but that if it did I would have to go to a different veterinary clinic to get it removed. At the time, I wasn't aware that remaining ovarian tissue could cause a female cat to go into heat because, due to the veterinarian's explanation, I was under the impression that the tissue wasn't functioning and wouldn't release any hormones.
Unfortunately, since January, Midna has had fits of yowling and attempting to escape the apartment every few days. Before this, she would barely even meow!
I've gotten a quote from the Veterinary Surgical Center in University Place, Washington, and according to this estimate, my required deposit is going to be $3293. All funds raised will be used to cover the cost of Midna's surgery as well as aftercare for her as I'm worried the procedure will end up costing more due to her only having one kidney.
