Might Mackena's life changing surgery
Donation protected
Asking for help is one of the hardest things any parent has to do. We never imagined having to be in this position and it truly breaks my heart having to ask for help .
Our names are Tara Byrne and Cody Oliver. We are the proud parents of Our Mighty Mouse Mackena and 5 other amazing children.
Mackena is our reason we are asking for help. Mackena was born in 2016 two months early at 31 week where she was air lifted to London's Children Hospital and spent her first few days of life intubated fighting to live and spent another three weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Owen Sound. Seeing your child fighting for life is one of the most horrific things a mother can go through. We are so blessed God has plans for her and she was able to stay with us.
Unfortunately as a result of her being born early she suffered a brain bleed which caused her to have brain damage and now has Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy.
Since her diagnosis at 1 years old we have focused on early intervention to get her muscles moving and stretching through Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. She has come so far in these past few years! She truly is remarkable! She fights to do and learn everyday things we take for granted. Mackena is a strong little girl and has the drive and motivation to keep trying and she never gives up. Unfortunately her muscle tightness is getting worse and causing her great pain and her feet to become deformed.
After doing extensive research and having the pleasure to learn about other options for Mackena we learned about Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery (SDR). With this surgery Mackena's life would greatly improve. She would finally be able to live pain free and get the opportunity to walk on her own without the use of her mobility devices so she can live carefree like a child should.
We are asking for help to send her to St. Louis to have the surgery which comes at a cost of $80,000. That money would pay for the surgery ($65,000) and (15,000) towards physiotherapy and equipment the month following surgery at St Louis Missouri Cerebral Palsy Center. If you are able to help our Mighty Mouse Mackena in anyway to improve her life we would be forever grateful.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts..love Mackena, Tara, Cody and all her siblings
**If we should exceed the target amount (or If we do not raise enough funds) the money raised will be donated to The Ronald McDonald House Charity to assist other Sick children***
