My name is Jinelle Mitchell sister of Miguel Mitchell.
Starting this fund was very difficult for myself and my brother is absolutely against it. However time is running out and he needs help.
Miguel has multiple scelrosis a diesase that has progressively taken his life away. It breaks my heart daily to know how my brother was and now what he has become. Gifted Soccer player and MS took it away from him. Now all I want is for him to be able to walk and live and not be in pain. To be here to see his daughter grow up
Miguel has Relapsing-Remitting MS , which means he has epsidoes such as blurry vision , loss of function in his left leg and a decline in his cognitive abilities . An episode can last for months at a time. He would suffer these episodic events over the years; however, he would have periods in between where he would not have these symptoms. It has been almost 15 years; and, at 41 years old, Miguel is displaying more prolonged effects and symptoms, including a notable deterioration of his cognitive function, vision, legs, balance and mobility.
Miguel came across Dr. Zamboni’s jugular ballooning procedure, approximately 15 years ago. This offered the possibility of relieving the symptoms associated with MS; and, more importantly, stopping the progression of the disease. The surgery was expensive and only done in Italy; yet, Miguel never lost sight of its potential to stave off his degeneration.
Since then, Dr. Arata (of California U.S.A.) has been performing the surgery, with great results for other Canadians; making it more accessible for Miguel, with two exceptions – the cost; and, more so, HIS PRIDE, which forbids him from speaking about his illness, let alone asking for assistance! In the meantime, he has run out of time and requires immediate help. Consequently, over the next 4 weeks, we – Miguel’s family (sisters, daughter, parents) and friends – are asking your assistance in raising $60000US for the cost of the surgery; airfare , accommodations and rehabilitaion for him.
