Mikayla Peters Expenses & Memorial
Donation protected

With very heavy hearts, we are asking for your assistance with expenses related to her unexpected and tragic attempt to end her life. All donations are appreciated, and we ask for your prayers for peace, comfort and strength for our family during this difficult time.
Mikayla struggled with depression and anxiety as a young adult due to some traumatic events in her life. On Saturday, June 16, 2018, Mikayla found out that her beloved boyfriend had unexpectedly passed away during the night. Her shock and grief at this sudden loss was so intense that she tried to end her suffering through suicide. She could not imagine life without him.
On Sunday evening, June 17, Mikayla took insulin and alcohol in a combination that caused her blood sugar to become dangerously low and was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in the early morning hours. As a result, Mikayla has been in the ICU unit with a severe acquired brain injury since June 18, 2018. We have exhausted all efforts to see if there could be some healing of her brain, but have learned that Mikayla will never be able to have conscious thought, speak, respond, or care for herself.
As a family, we have had to make the unimaginably heart-breaking decision to let her go, and plan to have the hospital remove her vent and feeding tube next week. We sincerely hope that God will take this agonizing decision out of our hands and that Mikayla will go peacefully home. We will honor Mikayla’s wishes in being an organ donor. She is loved by many people and will leave behind many grieving family members and friends.
As parents, we never envisioned having to deal with something like this. Donations will be used for medical expenses not covered by insurance and for her funeral expenses, as well as the remaining financial obligations that Mikayla has.
We thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all of the prayers, love and support shown to our family during this time.
