Mike and Sheila Freed

Dear friends, family, and compassionate strangers,

My name is Katherine and I'm setting up this account for my dear friend Sheila and her husband, Mike. In the middle of May Mike started feeling weak and nauseous. Then on the last day of June, Mike had seizure-like activity that prompted Sheila to call 911. Since then they have been in the hospital trying to figure out what was causing the seizures as well as the extreme pain Mike was feeling. After many tests and scans, they discovered that Mike has metastatic adenocarcinoma that originated in his esophagus.

After this heartbreaking diagnosis, the family is having to make some incredibly difficult decisions. Sheila has been by Mike's side throughout this process, which means that she has not been able to work and her sick days are running out very soon. A month-long hospital stay with so many tests and scans is going to be very expensive and the impending treatments will also add up quickly.
