Mike Austin’s C5,C6 Fusion Surgery

Hi, my name is Jackie Sena and I’m Mike Austin’s mother-in-law. Mike has been dealing with neck pain for a few years and doctors have tried various therapies and medicines to no avail. Finally, they realized that he has compressed disks that could at any moment for any reason cause permanent paralysis. He should have had this taken care of long ago if insurances would allow doctors to get to the bottom of the issues patients pose.

Mike was struggling to get approved for the surgery because of paperwork mishaps with doctor’s offices and such. He now has an approval for this very necessary and scary surgery.

It is an anterior spinal fusion where they go threw the front of the neck and remove/replace the cartilage. Next, they fuse the C5 and C6 together with a plate and screws. He will be off work for a couple of months.

Cost: Out of pocket $8000

Loss of income: $4000

Mike and Bethany should be thinking about buying a house and starting a family, but instead they are facing a large medical bill and loss of income. They also face the possibility of paralysis, fear and pain daily.
