My name is Ciara, and I'm a Customer at www.huntautomotive.com, where Mike Burkee is one of the highly skilled Mechanics on Staff. After Hurricane Ian, I reached out to Mike to ask how he was doing and if he had sustained any damage to his home. Mike's story of damage and loss of personal belongings mirrors that of so many in Lee County, and SWFL; however, the heroic and selfless measures he took the day of the storm to save the lives of seven people set him apart. With storm surge engulfing his home Mike knew his only chance was to get on his boat, which was on a trailer in his driveway. He also told his neighbor Connie to get out of her home and jump on the boat. While Mike determined the next course of action, an SUV near the end of his driveway was being swept away and it's occupants asked for help, "jump on board", with that, the rising water lifted the boat off the trailer. Mike maneuvered his way through his neighborhood where another SUV was stranded ... those people climbed out of their sunroof with Mikes's help, and they all took safe haven in a neighbor's house that was above water.
While Mike has flood insurance, his flood contents coverage is lacking. The funds raised on this GoFundMe page will be used to furnish Mikes home, and replace the appliances he has lost.
Thank you for any contribution.
