Mike Chenette and Family Battle with ALS

Our friend Mike Chenette was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in September of 2022, just before his 57th birthday. The disease has quickly progressed. In the few months since his diagnosis, Mike has lost strength and dexterity in both arms, his walking is severely compromised, and they have begun exploring technology resources to help Mike communicate as his speech continues to decline.

For anyone who knows Mike, you will not be surprised that he is accepting this diagnosis with strength and dignity. Whether you know Mike as a West Point cadet and Army hockey team player, from his military service including a deployment to Saudi Arabia and Iraq during the Persian Gulf War, in the operating room while selling medical products, the proud dad watching Jake at the hockey rink, or you've enjoyed his landscape talents as you pass by their home, you know Mike has a passion for life, family and friends. Mike likes to work hard and play hard, and boy does he love a good laugh.

Mike, his wife Bridget and their boys Will (15), and Jake (13) are hopeful the symptoms can be slowed down, but they are currently advancing rapidly and today there is no cure. The family wishes to remain in their home in Medway, MA, where they have lived for 17 years, throughout the duration of Mike’s Illness.

Mike is no longer working, and Bridget has taken a leave of absence from her job to coordinate his care. With support from the VA, family and friends, they will be able to retrofit their home for wheelchair accessibility. Your support will help cover medical expenses not covered by the VA and recurring living expenses as they navigate through this difficult time.
