Marine Veteran... Father of 6... Paralyzed :(
Donation protected
Mike Geffre is a loving brother, husband, marine corp veteran, and father to 6 wonderful girls.
Mike was injured on the job in January...
On June 1st, 2019, Mike went in for a surgery to fix a ruptured disk in his neck. Soon after being taken to recovery it was discovered that he was now paralyzed from the waist down and after a short time the tests showed that the paralysis had moved up to his chest.
On June 2nd, Mike was taken again into emergency surgery to put a drain into his spinal cord to relieve pressure and some bone around the surgery area was filed away to make room for swelling. Since surgery they have not seen much improvement, and they say only time will tell.
Today June 5th they put in a feeding tube to help him stay nourished. He has also developed a cough. Lung infections are the highest risk to newly paralyzed patients due to their lack of being able to breath as fully as they could beforehand. The doctors are watching for infection.
Imagine going in for what should be a pretty simple surgery and waking up not able to move....
I cannot fathom how devastated he and his family must be. Now there is a small chance that over time mobility and sensation could slowly return and that is what we are all hopeful for. The doctors have explained that even if they do return it could take 6 months to a year for full mobility.
My brother has been out of work and dealing with issues with workers comp since January because of this injury, and his family was already running low on funds. The Family is now in dire need for a little assistance and support. Their eldest daughter is at home helping with all of the girls including two children of her own (7 kids total). Wanda (Mikes Wife) has been by his side at the hospital and eating and sleeping very little. I am hoping to make it over eventually to lend a helping hand (depending on a few things). The family is getting behind on bills, and at risk of losing their home.
Everything from this GoFundMe will go to helping this family get though the rough months to come, and hopefully ease up the financial stress so they can focus on what is most important...
FAMILY, HEALTH, HAPPINESS
LOVE YOU ALL!
Anything and everything that can help lift this families spirits is greatly appreciated by all that know and love him. Even if its just 1$, or a card sent to brighten his day. Our family is not a stranger to these kinds of times and every little bit matters. If I had the means to cover it all myself I totally would.
