Last year, my father, Mike Helton, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The surgeon removed the tumor along with a portion of his pancreas and spleen. Pathology showed that the margins were clear and we were told that he was that rare patient who would survive this difficult disease. Having survived leukemia 9 years prior, we felt doubly blessed!

When his pain returned a few months ago, we were heartbroken to learn that the cancer had metastasized to his liver. During the first cycle of chemotherapy, he suffered a rare and severe toxic reaction due to an enzyme deficiency. This rendered him ineligible to continue treatment, but we found an integrated oncologist who has put together a new protocol and path to healing. These therapies, unfortunately, are very expensive and not covered by insurance.

If you know my dad, you know that his door is always open and he is a father figure to so many. He is a BMXer for life and builds bikes for kids who can't afford one. He has taught art to special needs students for years. He even set up his living room with equipment to provide a place to play music, where everyone is always welcome to come over and jam. He will give you a meal, a job and will come change your tire when you are broken down on the side of the road at 2AM. He will always give you solid advice with unconditional love.

He is devoted to our mom, his four children and four grandchildren and is larger than life to us all. My dad has made such a powerful impact in the lives of so many. Let's rally around him now with prayer, love and support to receive these therapies that will restore him to health. Encouragement in any form is healing and we appreciate your gifts from the bottom of our hearts.
