Mike Hembree

Mike and Ladonna Hembree her son Daniel and their grandson headed out from their Arkansas home Friday December 16th with their RV for Florida for their Christmas Vacation. Mike had gotten a skin tear on his arm they didn’t think anything about it did like everyone else would have done, put a bandaid on it and off they went. They made it to Troy, Alabama and stopped in Walmart parking lot to sleep for the night. Ladonna a nurse for many years changed his bandaid and they went to bed. Woke up Saturday morning Mike’s arm was swollen, red, and very painful, so off to the Emergency Room they went. He was seen and treated for cellulitis sent back to the RV with pain meds and antibiotics. They stayed there because he was not feeling well planned to take the day easy and head out the next day again. The next day Sunday morning Ladonna could not get Mike awake. They finally got him awake enough to get him to the recliner living room area in the RV Ladonna, RN looked at his arm again and it was much worse she changed his bandage again and called 911 because now he could not stay awake and was guppie breathing. They arrived back at the Emergency room again and Mike was quickly flown out to Birmingham, AL with a diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis. Ladonna went back to Walmart loaded up their car on the back of the RV which she has never done before and drove the RV to Birmingham 2 1/2 hours scared to death because she has never drove the RV before. They made it to an RV park in Birmingham unloaded the car and off to the hospital they went where she found her husband laying there and had already been to surgery and his arm was amputated up to about an inch below his shoulder. They are going to have to go back in and scrape more infection away and now he is septic, he is not waking up. This man is very very sick. She is not sure that their insurance will even pay being out of state hospital. This family needs your help this Christmas Season. It’s unknown how long he will be in the hospital or what recovery will be like, Ladonna will have to head home with her son and grandson after the first of the year because he will have to go back to school. She will go back to the RV alone and be there in Birmingham for her husband. Please if you find it in your heart to help this is a very deserving family.
