Mike Sole gets a new Liver!!

Donation protected
*UPDATE* - Much has happened since this page was created. Thankfully, our prayers have been answered in getting Michael a living liver donor!! That living liver donor happens to be none other than the roommate that Michael had in both 2020 and 2021, Jonathan Becker. It also happens to be the man that is writing this update to you all today. My vision when starting this page was for us to help my dear friend out in a time of need and hopefully get the word out there enough to find Mike a liver donor. Little did I know that the Lord would use me in a more real way than simply drawing attention to Michael’s need.

We are both going through our pre-operative testing in the coming weeks and have the donation scheduled for October 31st. As this is a large procedure on both of our ends, I will be staying in New York for 8 weeks to recover from the procedure, and Michael has to stay in the area for 3 months to recover.

The outpouring of support thus far has been nothing short of miraculous, thank you for that, but we have a way to go. This extended stay in New York City will not be cheap for either of us. Housing, food, transportation, and other miscellaneous things will need to be paid for during a time that we will be away out of work. There are grants that will help cover these costs, but they will not cover all of them. Your support will go a long way in helping both of us and our families through one of the biggest events of either of our lives.

Thank you again for all of your support in this process past, present, and future. We are looking forward to using this time to invest in ourselves and our recovery to not only get Michael healthy again, but for us to be better men for those around us.

Updates to follow as well as sharing where we will be staying if you feel compelled to send us mail during our hospital stays and recovery.

Friends, family, athletes and staff both past and present, and compassionate strangers that have found your way to this page. You may or may not know Michael Sole on a personal level, but we can all relate to his character and passion for helping others. Mike has been an athletic trainer for the last decade (2 years as a grad student, 6 years in professional baseball, and 2 years at Medical University of South Carolina. He has dedicated his life to the health and wellness of the staff, athletes, and clients that are around him and under his care by being the first one in and always ready to be the first to help out when an emergency happens.

If you know Mike, you know that he was not only dedicated to the health of others, but took his own fitness and wellness seriously. He hardly ever missed a training session, even when traveling in minor league baseball on routine 12–14-hour bus trips. That was all thrown for a loop when he began experiencing fatigue and abdominal pain that was not normal. After many tests, he found out at 30 years old he had a blood clot in his liver. The doctor’s performed a couple of procedures to remove the clot and put in stents, but that did not solve his issues fully. After getting a second opinion from doctors at New York Presbyterian hospital in New York, Mike has found out he needs a liver transplant that will keep him from work for up to 3 months. This will also require Mike to leave his home in Charleston, SC for that period and cause a significant financial strain.

Mike now NEEDS our help and support on this long road to recovery. More importantly than the financial support made through this page will be the motivating sentiments that can be left for Mike to read both now and throughout his recovery process. If there is anyone I know that is strong enough to survive a liver transplant and come back stronger, I know it is Michael Sole. Let’s rally together behind our friend, colleague, and family member to help him get back to his healthy and active self! Time to get Mike Sole back to Mike SWOLE!!! #mikeswole

PS: Send me a note if you are interested in getting information about being a potential liver donor as well. We will get you any information about the process that you would like!
