Hi, My name is Mike Wallis. I recently found out I have a brain tumour after having a seizure whilst in the US on tour.
I'm raising funds as I will be having an operation on the 13th of January and it will be several months of rehab before I can work again, possibly longer depending on how the operation goes.
I have a posterior right frontal glioma which is around 45mm in size.
The surgeon is hoping to remove 75% of this during the operation. They can't remove the rest as it sits in an area of my brain which I need for motor function (movement).
Once I have the surgery they will be able to obtain a definitive tumour diagnosis which may guide oncological treatment such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
My aim is to raise funds to cover expenses such as my monthly bills, my mortgage etc so that my life doesn't fall apart around me entirely whilst I get back to strength and begin my pivot in to the future.
It's likely that my life will change dramatically once I have recovered however the operation goes, I am ready for the challenge.
I have been a touring DJ for a long time and that will simply not be as feasible in the future.
My plan is to move into artist management and bookings for both visual artists and musicians who I have already established a working relationship with along with those that I feel have something to add to the scene I have helped to cultivate over decades of hard work in the music industry and beyond.
I am passionate about the future and I want to see artists succeed in what is becoming a more and more unsustainable environment.
I always planned to pivot away from performance and in to the logistics side of the music world when I hit around 50 anyway, I just never felt it was beneficial to be a player/manger as I felt it could impact my work on behalf of others so I'll just be doing it a little earlier than I had planned.
My label Colony Productions turns 25 in 2026. I'm incredibly proud of the work we have done in the last quarter of a century. 2026 was always going to be the year we expanded into this side of the business as far as I was concerned so the timing is actually not terrible.
Outside of music I also work as a realtor/estate agent on a self employed basis (currently with Moveli Estate Agents in the UK).
This is also going to be a lot harder going forward as I can no longer drive and if and when I do go back to selling houses and finding clients their dream homes it will take some time for me to get any kind of pipeline back up and running after the operation.
I have had to pass the sales I am dealing with to other agents in the meantime as I simply cannot put my own needs above that of my clients and they need to move, whilst I need to recover. The nature of the business is simply no sale, no fee so there is no paid time off or back up plan in place.
I believe this is all a temporary hitch and not a permanent glitch.
I hope that if you feel that I have added value to your life along the way, now would be a great time for you to consider lending a hand and can dip into your own pockets to keep things flowing so I can do the same when I get back to full strength.
None of us make it out of here alive and we're all in it together so I'm hoping you can see that if the table were turned on you that I would do the same. I'm used to being the one helping but for a change I'm the one asking for help this time.
I can borrow some money if it comes to it but I'd like to try and avoid coming out of this worse than I went in financially as well as potentially physically. I'm already focused on making sure I come out of it mentally stronger and believe that this is an opportunity for growth!!
Quite honestly, asking this here is more traumatic than the thought of having the operation itself. That bit I can get my head around a little easier, writing this and making this go fund me page has been harder than you would think!
I have a two track release which I'm going to give away for free (or pay as much as you like on Bandcamp) and have partnered with Oneirogen and Zip Visuals to tell the story of the tracks visually also, they have been mastered by Tipper.
The release will be uploaded prior to the op and is titled:
Osmetic - Apricity / Foals (COL076), which feels right given '76 was the year I was born!
These two tracks are close to my heart and I truly hope will not be my last.
I'll also be releasing various artists on Colony Productions over the coming months. You can also support me and the label by supporting them too.
In 2024 we had 8 releases hit the various portals and streaming sites but in truth streaming makes very little for artists and labels alike in this modern musical dystopia. The money is in performing, which is where I cannot (for now anyway).
I have just released a T-Shirt for anyone that's inclined to buy one but I'd like to start this page also for people who don't want to buy a T-Shirt or download a release but would still like to help me through what is inevitably going to be one of the toughest years of my life to date.
I promise to pay it forward when the time comes!! I always have done in the past and I would like to get back to doing that again as soon as I can.
I love you xx Any and all help is hugely appreciated at this difficult time.
T-Shirt link is below:
