Mike Williams' Family

Hi, my name is Julie Park, Mike's mother-in-law. This past Saturday my daughter, Jenna, and their two boys, Caden and Wyatt, unexpectedly lost their support system and father. Mike was currently going through treatment for what was his second round of Stage III Colorectal cancer. He seemed to be doing well with the aggressive chemotherapy and was over half way done with the treatment. On Friday, May 5, Jenna came home from work to find Mike laying on the floor unable to move or talk. He was rushed to the hospital for what was assumed to be a stroke. He was intubated within 10 minutes of arriving and was taken back for STAT imaging. Imaging showed a massive stroke, taking up the entire left side of his brain, and blood clots in both lungs. He was placed on a ventilator and transferred to STICU. What we thought was going to be a hospital stay that resulted in months of rehab ended up being something that nobody was prepared for. When the doctor spoke to Jenna, he suggested that she make him DNR and make him comfortable. With his already compromised system, there was no coming back from the damage done to his brain and no way to treat the clots in his lungs without making him bleed more. His lab values showed that he was already septic and he was 100% depending on the vent. We stayed with him and prayed hoping that a miracle would happen.. he just looked like he was sleeping. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case and his body just couldn't handle anymore trauma. Less than 12 hours after getting to the ED, Jenna had to make the difficult decision to "make him comfortable", and we lost him.

I'm making this in hopes to help my daughter and the boys with the financial burden that she has been dealt. The hospital that Mike went to stopped the contract with his insurance just 5 days before his death. Mike was the provider for the family and took care of all finances. Any contribution made will go directly to my daughter and the boys and to making sure that they don't have to make any additional life changes during this very difficult time. Mike was such an amazing person who loved his boys fiercely, and I know that all he would want is for his family to be taken care of.
