Mike Davis's Dementia Support Fund

Donation protected
My dad, Mike, was a fun loving, easy going, happy-go-lucky guy. He was happily married to his wife, whom he has 3 children with(we're all grown up now; 26, 29, and 32).He would to talk to anyone and everyone about anything and everything. He LOVED to talk and help others. But at the age of 52, dad was diagnosed with early onset Frontotemporal Dementia. Mike has slowly forgotten how to talk, get dressed, go to the bathroom, and feed himself. He'll soon forget how to swallow and breathe. Our family has spent the past 4 years caring for him at home. He was such a good dad to his three kids, it was the least we could do for him.

In May, at the age of 56, Mike started showing signs of violent outbursts, which are a common symptom of Frontotemporal Dementia but very out of character for dad. My mom took her husband to the hospital in fear of him hurting her or himself. After a 3 week stay in the hosiptal, Mike was placed in a Memory Care Facility. One month later, he started having more violent outbursts which has lead to falling and hurting himself and others.  He's recently been moved to a Mental Health Institute.

It's very difficult to watch the father you love and look up to turn into someone who barely recognizes you. But it's still worth the 2 and a half hours of driving to visit for 20 minutes even when it's not a guarantee he'll be happy to see us. We do everything we can to try to comfort and help him because he deserves it.  Dad has always been there for us through thick and thin. Now it's our turn to be there for him when he needs us most.

Because of all the recent hospital stays, ambulance rides, and round the clock, one-on-one mandatory care, it's taking a financial toll. My mom has to keep taking unpaid time off which makes it difficult to afford everything. We are asking for donations to help with the cost of Mike's care and time we have to take off to be with him. Our wish is to be able to be there for our husband/dad as much as we can.

Any donation amount is greatly appreciated. If you financially cannot make a donation, please consider liking this post, sharing it, and please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
