Michael's Medical Costs

Donation protected
My name is Michael Mathews.  I'll be 32 years old on Monday, June 29, 2015.  I was born and currently live in Central New York.  I was born with a Lipoma Spinal Cord Tumor.  I was once able to walk and use my hands and arms.  I didn't move or walk like normal, but I was able to get around.  I gradually lost everything from my neck down.  Although I went to school, graduated High School was able to get my Bachelor's  Degree from Brockport State College, I lost my active mobility not long after graduating college.  I have had many surgeries.  I am a quadriplegic, and have a trach and on a ventalator and oxygen, 24/7.  I have been hospitalized many times for as long as 3 weeks, with pnemonia, bed ulcers, blood pressure issues, fevers, UTIs, and other medical problems.  I have pretty good insurance, but the insurance company doesn't think some things are medically necessary.  Sometimes it's about my state of mind, its about keeping my self busy with something, its about being productive and achieving something worthwhile.  So while I cannot move myself, I can get out of the house, I can use a mouth control for my computer and for my xbox.  What I need is a wheelchair seat cushion that is low air loss and alternating.  Its necessary because, to get out of the house and go do something I need to sit in a wheelchair and the cushion is very important, I now have several sores, or ulcers.  Healing is slow, and is slower if I sit for awhile and the seat cushion does not alternate air so the pressure on my bottom changes position.  Its very expensive, but necessary.  Also a portable O2 concentrator would be better than a O2 tank.  The tank is bulky and it's inconvenient to have to go get a new one once one is used up.  Need to keep many in the van.  Having a portable O2 concentrator with rechargable batteries, lets me get out and not worry about running out of O2, and having to hurry back to Van for a fresh one.  There are other things out there for me.  One place I wanted to go to was The Shephard Center, in Atlanta Georgia.  It is a place that helps quadripelics like me.  The Shephard Center rehabilitates and finds alternative equipment that will improve my mobility and my life.  With some help I can achieve alot.
