Mike's surgery and recovery costs in Singapore

Mike and his family are seeking financial support for Mike to receive emergency open-heart surgery in Singapore.

Complications from a Covid infection in September 2023 caused Mike to develop increased difficulty in breathing. On the night of 21 December 2023, he visited the emergency room of a hospital in Singapore with severe breathlessness and was diagnosed with excess fluid in his lungs.

An ultrasound of his heart during this visit indicated the previously undiagnosed conditions of a leaky aortic valve and an aneurysm of the aorta, with the risk of the aneurysm rupturing at any time.

The cardiologist who treated Mike advised that the condition was life-threatening and would require immediate open-heart surgery to correct the condition. Unfortunately, Mike's insurance won't cover the cost of open-heart surgery in Singapore.

He has investigated returning by med-evac flight to Australia where Medicare would cover his surgery, but the cost of an air ambulance is prohibitive, and flying carries additional risks.

The lowest cost, lowest risk, and most expedient course of action is for Mike to undergo surgery in the Singapore public hospital system, which is internationally recognised for its high level of medical care.

However, the treatment costs are beyond Mike's financial ability to cover alone.
