My home Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), that has always been a peaceful state that respected general democratic values has been recently attacked by Azerbaijan as a part of pre-planned operation together with Turkey in order to remove majority of indigenous Armenians from the region and take control of the land.
Many of my family members have become refugees. Many others have died and/or become severely injured. Further, even more are at risk of being completely exterminated by Azerbaijan + Turkey similar to what occured before during the 20th century.
An incredible number of war crimes and human rights violations have been reported and documented with evidence. From day one, Azerbaijan has been shelling civilians in towns and using prohibited weapons, including cluster bombs, smertch rockets, and more. Azerbaijan is targeting civilians, journalists and key infrastructure as they attempt to make Artsakh unlivable.
This is happening at the same time as the global COVID-19 crisis, and so, many are suffering two-fold -- both from the war, and from the pandemic.
We hope the world does not stay silent, as they have been during this time, and join us in putting an end to the inhumane Azerbaijan and Turkey aggression ASAP so that we can return to peace.
The damage to the peaceful people of Artsakh is immeasurable and we are far from the end of this horror. For those of us who call Artsakh home, there will never be a return to "normal," but we can, at the very least, fight for our survival and peace.
