Miles for Sana'a
Tax deductible
$15=1 mile
In the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic, many of us have felt an unprecedented level of suffering in recent months. For the people of Yemen, however, the virus is only a drop in the bucket. Since 2015, civil war has ravaged the country as a result of shifting leadership. According to UNICEF reports, of a population of 28 million people, a whopping 24 million are in desperate need of humanitarian aid (12 million of which are children). Not only does its citizens suffer at the hands of a brutal civil war, but also from mass starvation, inadequate health facilities, depleting water sources, cholera outbreak, and an emerging coronavirus threat.
Despite the crisis being labeled "The World's Worst Humanitarian Crisis," the catastrophe has received very little media coverage since its wake. According to the Atlantic Council, rebel forces shelled in broadcasts since 2014, and have extensively monitored media coverage of the crisis-- both to and from Yemen.
About 8.3 Million people depend on the food collected from funds raised by donors, but because of the pandemic's economic impact in the US, donors have halted contributions as they await greater economic stability. For this reason, we pledge that for every $15 dollars contributed to the campaign, we will run a mile. The rules for the challenge are below:
1. $15 donated to this gofundme page= 1 mile run
2. We must verify through Fitbit/AppleWatch, etc.
3. Miles run will be confirmed on Instagram page (@milesforsanaa)
4. Depending on the amount raised, we will limit ourselves to 20 miles a day
100% of the funds will be contributed to the Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation. The foundation was carefully considered through thorough research and direct contact. The foundation sends 100% of donations to relief efforts in Yemen, by which it has accomplished a great deal in aiding Yemeni civilians.
