What is Militantly Mixed?

Militantly Mixed is a Golden Crane award-winning podcast about race and identity from the Mixed Race perspective produced and hosted by Sharmane Fury.

The podcast launched on July 5, 2018.

What can I expect from Militantly Mixed?

The Militantly Mixed mission is to create a safe space for people of Mixed Race, Multiracial, and/or Multiethnic identity to listen to and share their experiences living while Mixed.

From this podcast you can expect:

• Weekly episodes of one-on-one conversations between host Sharmane Fury and a fellow Mixed identified “cousin.”

• Informative, heartfelt, nuanced conversations about race and identity from the Mixed perspective

• Some good ol’ “Auntie lessons” from the Mixed Aunties, featuring author TaRessa Stovall (Swirl Girl: Coming of Race in the USA and Mixed Auntie Confidential blog) and Sharmane Fury.

Plus, the occasional panel discussions and IG Lives with guest covering specific topics in Mixedness.

Why am I raising money for Militantly Mixed?

After four years of producing Militantly Mixed independently, I am ready to seek a higher quality level of production. The message of Militantly Mixed and the narratives shared by my generous guests mustn’t get lost in lesser quality as can sometimes happen when you produce a podcast from home. This means hiring an engineer, seeking studio time or building a home studio as I have dreamed of for years, and hiring a part-time assistant to help manage some of the essential duties that sometimes get pushed to the background while trying to release an episode.

Militantly Mixed is considered a “niche” podcast, meaning it has a small audience dedicated to a particular topic… Mixedness. And though we are amongst the top podcasts on Mixed Race identity, we are not receiving access to brand deals or podcast ads which would help carry the cost of producing a weekly show. These are just the trials and tribulations of making an independent podcast about Mixedness.

Everything I do is self-funded or funded by generous donations from the show’s Patreon sponsors. I am so grateful for the support of listeners and guests, and I love producing this show, but the cost of production has caught up to me, and after incurring a lot of personal debt, I am not in a position where I cannot continue to do the show at its current level nor grow it without your support.

Who is Sharmane Fury?

Your Sir Auntie, Sharmane Fury aka daBlasian Blerd is the busiest Black-Mixed-Japanese, Bigendered, Bisexual-Polyamorous, Atheist, Comic Book Nerd, Cat Mom, Award-winning Podcasters in this podcasting game. Host/co-host of Militantly Mixed, BLERDcoMIXed, Bifurious, and the Queer & Far podcasts, and former Producer of Black Radical Queer, hosted by Jhavia Nicole. Sharmane believes in creating a platform for POC/PoGM voices to be heard. She is also the owner/operator of ManeHustle Media, a podcast network dedicated to the for us, by us, and about us approach in podcast creation.
