R.I.P, Mum. I don’t know how to do life without you here.

My name is Laura. My mum was my greatest support and my constant through life’s ups and downs. She was a devoted mother to me and, later, an incredible grandmother. She supported us through so many moments, especially when times were hard.

We all think we have more time, but life changes so quickly. I’m grateful I told her I loved her the morning of September 27th. I never imagined I’d find her that afternoon, still in her going-out clothes, and that my entire world would change in an instant. It’s in moments like this that the things she taught me resonate more deeply than ever before.

In a world that can sometimes feel divided, my mum always reminded me to stay close to family and cherish those we love.

She was giving to everyone—family, friends, even acquaintances. When my daughter’s father couldn’t help, it was Mum who stepped up, supporting us both in ways I can never repay. Despite being on a limited income, she always found ways to be there for us, giving from her heart and showing her love in countless ways.

The past few years have been especially hard. In 2019, I went through a painful relationship that had a profound impact on me. What started as something beautiful ended up leaving me with emotional scars, changing my relationships with those I love the most. I had a nervous breakdown and developed PTSD, and it’s taken a long journey to find strength again. But even through these struggles, my two lights—Mum and my daughter—helped me through.

I had to quit my job to care for my daughter full-time, and with no funeral fund set aside, we’re now facing unexpected costs. After years of caring for Mum, it’s heartbreaking to face financial roadblocks in giving her the farewell she deserves. I’ve learned that even after being her primary caregiver, I’m not eligible for bereavement assistance because I wasn’t her partner. On top of this, we were not given any grace period to handle her belongings, leading to extra rental costs at an already overwhelming time.

Her death comes as a huge shock to everyone, and her kind-hearted nature left a mark on all who knew her. Every contribution will help us say goodbye to my mum the way she deserves. Mum did not want a funeral, so my daughter and I are honouring this as it will keep costs down and will have a small memorial if we can.

We’d be incredibly grateful for any support, and sharing this page also means the world to us.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and love; it’s truly appreciated more than words can express. Any support will help us honour my mum’s legacy. Every contribution, no matter the size, will be appreciated more than words can express. Thank you for helping us give her the farewell she deserves.
