Help us to raise funds so that we can fix immediate issues in the Manor, acquire correct furnishings and better secure the Manor's state for many years to come!
Since 2016, Mill Neck Manor has undergone a process of extensive restoration and preservation to return the home to how it would have looked in 1925. The hope of the Mill Neck Family of Organizations is that the home may be better exhibited to the public during our tours and events, as all funds raised by Mill Neck Manor tours and events directly benefit Deaf children and adults.
When the home was purchased in 1949 with the aim of becoming a school for the Deaf, none of the original furnishings were sold with the Manor. With a new push to better represent the home's history, we would like to purchase pieces that accurately represent the original furnishings from 1925. Part of the home will also be set up as it would have looked in 1951 when the Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf first opened. We believe that better presenting our foundation's dual history is integral to accurately showcasing our story to the public.
Proposed purchases that your donation can help us secure (see set of photos below for reference to original furnishings):
- Chairs (4) for Great Hall, period 1934
- Entrance table for Great Hall, period 1925
- Suits of Armor (2), recreation
- High Chest for Great Hall, period 1925
- Children's School Desk (8), period 1951
>For a donation of $100, receive a complimentary hardcover, full color book detailing the history of Mill Neck Manor, and the Mill Neck Family of Organizations, as a thank you.
>For a donation of $300, receive two complimentary tickets to any one of our monthly tours beginning in April of 2019, as well as receive a complimentary woven throw blanket depicting Mill Neck Manor, the Deaf Education Center and other buildings on the grounds, as a thank you.
>For a donation of $500 receive four complimentary tickets to any one of our monthly tours beginning in April of 2019, as well as receive a complimentary woven throw blanket depicting Mill Neck Manor, the Deaf Education Center and other buildings on the grounds, as a thank you.
>For $1000 receive a private tour of the Manor House for eight guests, followed by lunch in the Manor, at a date of your choice beginning in April of 2019.
Any amount helps, and every donation is greatly appreciated!
Look at the photos below to see what your donation can do! This is a maid's room in Mill Neck Manor. For many years it was used as a closet (see second photo), until this July when it was fully restored to how it would look around 1925 (see first photo).

Mill Neck Manor is located on the North Shore of Long Island, on what is normally referred to as the "Gold Coast," which was the setting for the "Great Gatsby." The Manor House is a majestic Tudor Revival mansion and was completed in 1925. It is set on an 86-acre scenic estate overlooking the Long Island Sound and was the home of Lillian Sefton Dodge and her husband Robert Leftwich Dodge.
In 1949, Lutheran Friends of the Deaf, the founding group of the Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, purchased the property from Mrs. Dodge, and in 1951 the Manor was reopened as a school for Deaf children. The school operated in the Manor until 2001, at which time all classes moved out of the Manor and into a newly built Deaf Education Center on the property.
