A VULNERABLE VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Mimi was the vulnerable victim of prolonged domestic violence by her husband. Mimi suffered from multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia. Despite a restraining order, her husband was able to take advantage of her sicknesses to manipulate his way back into her life.
She was found dead after being physically restrained with ligatures and gagged with a sock and leather belt. The belt was so tight that it had to be cut off after she died.
Mimi left behind two teenage boys. To make her death seem like an accident, her husband used the boys in an elaborate ruse that included the horrible act of having the boys perform CPR on the rigor mortis corpse of their mother.
Additionally, following the death of their mother, the boys were subject to a prolonged and emotional custody battle when their deadbeat biological dad returned after a 13-year absence demanding custody of the boys. The boys desperately wanted to stay with Mimi's parents who helped raise them.
Both boys are suffering from PTSD trauma that will require years of therapy. To spare the boys from further trauma, the family agreed to a plea deal following two years of trial preparations. The husband pleaded guilty to First Degree Manslaughter. He was awarded a 40-year sentence in the state penitentiary with 22 years suspended. He will likely only serve 10 years in the state penitentiary. 10 years for someone's life is not justice!
The family has legal bills of over $50,000 and expenses (lost income, future therapy bills) of over $100,000.
The goal of the campaign is to recover the family expenses suffered as a result of this terrible tragedy and to help the boys overcome their debilitating PTSD. Any excess funds will be donated to charities that support the victims of domestic violence.
