Help me publish my memoir!!
I have been writing this story for decades. I fell in love with writing when I read the first book of the Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. How wonderful to tell my story, just like Laura did. I sat down in my third grade classroom - while the rest of the kids were at recess - and put pencil to paper.
Nothing.
I had nothing to write because nothing had happened to me.
I put the pencil down, and joined my friends outside. I'd have to wait for something to happen before I could write it down.
It wouldn't be long at all before a story developed.
Minnesota Nice is the story of my coming of age in the late 70s and early 80s. Navigating all the regular pitfalls of growing up - with the added pressure of a dad who happened to be gay, and willing to do just about anything to keep it secret, and a mom who suffered from severe brain damage following a stroke.
It was a wild ride.
The book has now been completed, but I need help getting it published. It needs a comprehensive edit, a book cover design and typset, a marketing campaign and distribution (this gets my book into the bookstores). I've got a great self publishing agency to work with and am looking at a January 2018 release date.
This memoir - a tragic comedy - has been compared to Running With Scissors, The Fault in our Stars and now 13 Reasons Why (without the messy death at the end).
Asking for help is scary, but if I'm going to ever get this book published I'm going to need help. If I can presell even one copy, I will consider this a raging success.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and my absolute gratitude for helping me reach a life long goal.
Blessings!
Jen
