On Wednesday, Killian became sick with a fever, vomiting and pain in his right leg. Two days later he was in pain and couldn’t walk so I brought him to the doctor and they told me (without doing any testing ) that he just has the flu, even though he was in so much pain and could not stand. It was “just the flu” to them. Saturday Killian developed a rash and when I called the Dr I was brushed off and told to follow the treatment plan, it’s the flu and virus cause rashes. By Sunday Killians body was bright red, his temp was high and I could not touch him without him screaming. I took him to the emergency room and told them something was seriously wrong. They only did flu,Covid, strep and RSV culture which all came back negative. I was told they were releasing him, it was probably a viral. I asked why they weren’t doing blood work or X-rays and I was told that “I’m trained in emergency medicine not pediatric medicine. It’s best you take him to his doctor and get those tests done” we were released and had to endure another night of pain.
Monday we took him back to his doctor and saw a different dr in the office who listened to our concerns and sent him to the lab to get blood work. Later that afternoon she asked us to come back to get a rapid fire test done because she saw somethings on his bloodwork and wanted to rule out more viruses. We went and did the test. That came back negative. They asked us to come back the next morning for more testing. I told the nurse on the phone that we would come back but it’s at the point where they need to do something and admit my child to the hospital for testing because something is very very wrong. Tuesday morning we went back to the doctor and she decided to administer into the hospital for further testing like we requested. When we got to the hospital they were doing testing right away. We found out that Killian has a blood infection /staph that has turned into toxic shock syndrome. They also did more testing on why he could not stand and discovered that the infection was also in his hip. It was filled with fluid. He had to have emergency surgery to drain and clean it out. The concern is that it can refill with fluid and he’ll need another surgery. So we have to monitor it closely. He still can not walk.
We can not go home until he tests negative for staph in his blood for 10 days. So far he is still positive.
I am not one to usually ask for help but I am the main source of income in our home and I have not worked for a week and won’t be able to work for some time. I am asking for a little help to continue paying bills so we don’t end up in trouble. Anything you can give is appreciated. Just reading this long post is appreciated. Thank you❤️
