Miracle for the Machotka Family
Donation protected
Since October 22nd, 2021 the Machotka Family has been living a nightmare. Steve and Kim's 18-year-old daughter Lauren was in a tragic car accident. Lauren was driving when she was hit at highway speeds on the driver's side of her vehicle. She has suffered incredible amounts of broken bones and other internal injuries, which have healed, but thus far, her brain has not. Lauren has a diagnosis of Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI), grade 3.
Lauren is a kind, fun-loving 18-year-old with so much life ahead of her. Over the last four months, her family and friends have continued to hope and pray for a miracle. This opportunity to attend the 4 week program at the TIRR Memorial Hermann Disorders of Consciousness (DoC) Program is her last chance at life. The program costs about $100,000. The flight to get Lauren to the program costs about $20,000. Learn more about the program HERE.
Kim and Steve Machotka would never want to ask anyone for anything - but Rachel Weis and Jess Lawinger will ask for them. The Machotkas are a couple that is always there for and giving to others - may it be a listening ear, hosting a party, donating to a fundraiser, or delivering turkeys to their tenants for Thanksgiving. Now it is their turn to be supported while experiencing these extensive unforeseen expenses to save their daughter's life. We can't take away the pain that the accident has caused, but we can help relieve the financial stress. Kim and Steve are self-employed - leaving them with extremely high medical bills as insurance isn't covering many expenses. Please consider supporting this family during this heart-wrenching time in their lives.
The family has graciously asked for loved ones to wait to hear about how the program is going vs. reaching out to them directly. Although they know they are filled with love, being bombarded with messages feels a bit overwhelming as they process this major shift in their lives. They very much appreciate the continued prayers.
A note from Kim, Lauren's mother:
We thank everyone for your thoughts, prayers, favors, food, and help during this tragic time in our lives - so many thoughtful and sincere people. On Tuesday, March 1, Lauren is being flown to TIRR medical in Houston, TX; one of the country's only brain injury rehabilitation facilities that would accept her into their program. This program is our last chance to bring Lauren out of her coma before her "window" closes. If it is unsuccessful, our family will be at peace knowing we did everything we could to save Lauren's life. We are doing everything possible to help our dear Lauren. We are selling rental properties to help fund her medical expenses that insurance won't cover. We love her so much and appreciate everyone's prayers, love and support.
