Miracle Twins: Makenzie & Makayla
My niece, Tracey Hernandez and family, had an unexpected early delivery of her precious identical twin girls at 22 weeks, Makenzie and Makayla (lovingly called the M&M twins) on December 08, 2019. These micro preemies were born weighing 1lb 1oz and 1lb 3oz. As you can imagine, everyone was filled with joy upon their arrival but also with the uncertainty of their survival.
The girls are currently admitted at Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Both girls have experienced some significant health ups and downs. Makenzie has had a PDA ligation to close the hole in her heart and Makayla is battling a fatal fungal infection. They are currently on the ventilator and have had multiple severe diagnosis that they are currently fighting. The M&M twins are 7 weeks old and have been in the NICU for 50 days. They have a very long, tough, and uncertain road ahead.
Due to the severity of the situation and health of the girls, my niece, Tracey, must be there for them. My niece is the primary breadwinner of the family. She is an LPN for special needs individuals that requires that she spend significant time away from her family which, at this time, is just not an option. In order for her to be able to stay with her twins, Tracey needs to extend her maternity leave. Currently, she has exhausted all her days off. It is imperative that she be able to remain with her twins on a daily basis, while I hate to even say this, the next second is not promised and every moment is precious.
They have only just begun their journey - they have many months to go and many more ups and downs ahead. Along with her twin girls, Tracey has an 8-year-old daughter named Jada that requires time and attention as well. The family is asking for your donations no matter the amount. Let's come together as one and support this family in this trying time! We understand if you are not able to provide financial support, and would sincerely appreciate prayers for Makenzie, Makayla, Jada and the rest of the family! Thank you and God Bless.
