Miranda's Brain Surgery

Update: Since the endoscopic third ventriculostomy Miranda's headaches, double vision, and neck pain have improved but continue to come and go. Her family and her went down to meet with her neurosurgeon Dr. Meysam A Kebriaei, MD. They discussed what to expect before, during, and after the tumor removal. Surgery is Scheduled at 7:00 AM on September 17th at Childrens Hospital St. Paul, it will be about an 8 hour procedure. During the biopsy they did not get enough cells to get a clear answer on the tumor but they narrowed it down to either a grade 2 pineocytoma or grade 4 pineoblastoma. Miranda will be in the hospital for 3-5 nights after the removal and then staying with her family until she recovers fully and no longer in pain from the surgery. About three weeks after the removal Miranda and her family will go back down to the Childrens Hospital for a post op check up and to get her sutures removed.
After weeks of experiencing double vision, headaches, and neck and back pain Miranda went to urgent care and was given a shot of pain killers and told that would relieve the pain. (Her doctor even said "at least it's not a brain tumor") She was sent home and told they couldn't get her in for an MRI until August. The pain and eye problems continued so she went to an ophthalmologist on July 19th where they discovered her optic nerve was very swollen on the right side and there was hemorrhaging behind her left eye. They sent her to the ER to get an emergency MRI of her brain where they discovered the swelling and hemorrhaging was being caused by a tumor. The tumor had cerebral spinal fluid buildup so she was immediately transported by ambulance to Children's hospital of St. Paul. She was monitored overnight and was scheduled for surgery the next morning. They successfully did a biopsy of the tumor and removed the fluid to relieve the pressure on her brain. The results of the biopsy are not yet known, so we do not yet know what the next steps for treatment will be. Since Miranda does not currently have medical insurance, the cost of the ambulance ride and her first surgery are already a lot to handle. We are asking for any donations big or small to help her and her family through this difficult time. If you are not able to donate please share and pray for Miranda and her family.
