Miriam Mysteriam and Teen Need A Home

Hi, we are Caren Gussoff Sumption, Rachael Dosen, and Glenda Bailey-Mershon, and we are fundraising for our friend, whom you may know as Miriam Mysteriam, and her son, whom you may know as The Teen.

Overview

Miriam's Teen, who is a musician and athlete, is about to start his first year as a college freshman at Champlain College in Burlington, VT. So his mom, Miriam, wanted to move back to Vermont, where she lived for many years, to be close by.

It has been a tough year, with Miriam deeply involved in burying elders, made tougher by recent developments.

When a friend offered them a place to stay in Vermont while they got settled, Miriam and The Teen packed up everything they had and put it in storage near the friend's house. Unfortunately, the friend began to behave strangely due to addiction issues, and Miriam feared being near her. So our two wayfaring strangers took to a tent in the woods - and Miriam's car - where they have lived off and on when they had no money for motels. And their funds, with the exorbitant costs of motels in Vermont, quickly dried up.

Miriam, who is looking for work, has a Section 8 housing voucher, but there is no housing currently available. In the meantime, they are trying to stay in the cheapest motels as much as possible so that they can both have regular showers, meals, and get some decent rest.

No incoming college freshman should have to spend his last summer in a tent in the woods or in cheap motels (or a car) wondering where the next meal is coming from. He worries about his cat, who hates the tent (and the car), and has run off into the woods twice due to a fear of strange humans, and the many other unknowns she has encountered on this journey.

Background

You may know Miriam. Perhaps she has read tarot cards for you. Perhaps she helped you find a book in past days at the Cutler Library in Plainfield, VT. She might have been your bartender up at Bolton Valley. Or perhaps she took your kid's photo at one of the many schools she traveled to with Lifetouch Photography.

What the Funds Will be Used for

Now she needs another good job, a two-bedroom house or apartment to call home. If you've seen her lovely plants, you know she really needs a bit of yard to beautify.

But right now, there are the storage fees, food, gas, and a crashing need for a reliable place to stay. Not to mention the things a college freshman might need.

Please help us get Miriam and The Teen settled securely. Anything you can give would be appreciated, and you might get a lovely surprise in return!
