Support Feature Documentary Film on Moi Renee

What's good fam, my name is Brandon Nick. I'm a filmmaker fundraising for the next phase of production for Miss Honey, my documentary film.

Miss Honey is a feature-length documentary about Moi Renee, the audacious Caribbean-American drag performer popular for his song “Miss Honey,” who left his murderously homophobic home country of Jamaica for a life of freedom, which he found on NYC’s dance floors.

Miss Honey started as an unfinished episode for my podcast in 2019 and since then has morphed into my directorial debut film. Currently, I have a handful of interviews filmed for the feature. One of which was used in my latest short doc, Miss Honey: the Catsuit, which will be in the festival circuit very soon. But there’s much more work to be done.

So now I’m calling on community for support in telling his story. This current phase of funding is to streamline my production process. I have several interviews lined up with Black queer elders and cultural experts. Meeting the fundraising goal for this phase would allow me to hire crew and rent necessary film gear for the next few months. Donations will also support travel and location rentals.

Moi Renee’s audaciousness, vibrancy and resiliency resonates so deep with me, as a fellow queer Caribbean-American, and it’s been a privilege and joy telling his story. My hope is that this film will honor his legacy while shifting the conversations and perceptions around LGBTQ rights and representation within West Indian culture.
