Miss Jody's Breast Cancer Journey

Donation protected
I am honored that Miss Jody has allowed me to share a little of her story so that we can help her.  Miss Jody was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2020.  She underwent a lumpectomy in December and has recently learned that they didn't get all of the cancer cells.  She will undergo a second surgery on January 27th, followed by radiation.  I ask that you respect her privacy at this trying time; a Facebook page will be set up for everyone to follow her progress.  I will post the link as soon as it is available.

A dear beloved friend, supportive colleague, talented teacher, and giving community member has been experiencing some medical distress in the last few months. Miss Jody has been a valuable connection for thousands of youth who have been a part of the Dance Magic family for the past 30 years. While she has an unwavering commitment and responsibility to her teaching and students, she needs some time in order to fully heal.

If anyone has ever observed Miss Jody with her students, it is apparent that her students are like her children. Her eyes sparkle, and she has a huge smile on her face - even when things are not going well. She turns any difficult situation into a positive one with grace and care. Miss Jody makes a positive impression on every life because she sees the light and love in everyone.  She makes all of her students feel seen, heard and valued .She is always positive, encouraging and supportive. Through her passion for teaching, commitment to relationships and connections with others she has a positive impact on people’s lives and has made deep, meaningful impressions on those she comes into contact with.

Miss Jody is a strong independent woman who has devoted her life to helping and inspiring  others. She rarely asks for help because, like many givers, she doesn’t want to burden others with her problems. She is the type of person to reason that the situation could be worse and she has it way better than someone else. We know that our asking to support Miss Jody puts her in a vulnerable position because she has been a pillar of strength, courage and positivity.  Being vulnerable isn’t an easy thing for anyone and she would prefer to keep this private. We have reassured her that there are so many people that want to contribute to her wellness - because we want a healthy, cancer-free Miss Jody back in our community working her magic and doing what she loves.

Healing requires empathy, connection and compassion. We are asking the community of people who have been touched by Miss Jody’s work to help reduce the financial, social and psychological stress of fighting cancer (during a pandemic!) by donating to this fundraising campaign.

Connection
I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship - Brene Brown
