Miss Kim’s Crusaders

As many of you already know, my mom (Miss Kim), was rushed to the hospital on the morning of February 23, 2023, after being found semi-conscious at home, having post-seizure symptoms. After a quick workup at Hancock Regional, she was transferred to IU Health Methodist where she was ultimately diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and metastatic brain cancer.
To say it’s been a rough road for her since that Thursday is quite an understatement…but you’d never know that based on her spirit, optimism, outlook, and faith. She was inpatient for a total of 40 days, during which time she received extensive care including whole brain radiation treatments, a round of 3-day chemotherapy infusions, intense inpatient rehabilitation OT/PT, and even a second ICU visit with around-the-clock IV antibiotics and fluids due to pneumonia she caught while at the inpatient rehab facility.
Thankfully my mom is the strongest, most resilient person I know. Now, more than ever, she is proving it and has fought her way over all these hurdles that keep arising. She is finally back home, but she’s required to have someone with her 24/7 because she still doesn’t have enough strength to get around without a walker and requires minor assistance with many of life’s daily activities. She started another round of 3-day chemotherapy this week (April 10th-12th), and thankfully—because she’s outpatient now—they’re going to give her the first round of immunotherapy as well. If she tolerates the chemo and immunotherapy well, the plan is to give her another round of both in ~3 weeks.
Many of you also know that Miss Kim has been a part of the Noah's Ark Daycare family for 27 years. She has committed much of her life to caring and sharing God's love with the children that have attended Noah's Ark in the past and present. Unfortunately, because of this diagnosis, Miss Kim will never return to work again…truly breaking her heart. She loves all the children and takes great pleasure in being a part of their development from babies into school-aged kids.
Noah’s Ark sponsored an internal t-shirt fundraiser to help support my mom, and although that had great success, many people continue to ask how they can contribute more than a couple of dollars for a t-shirt. I am only starting a donation collection because of persistent pressure from some incredibly wonderful individuals who—just like my mom—exemplify selflessness and feel an overwhelming need to do/give more to others, especially in times of hardship. Please know and try to understand that my mom takes so much pride in providing for her family without help from others, so I’m sure she is actually going to have more difficulty accepting any financial help than she did tolerating this diagnosis and/or treatment…that’s just how stubborn she is! To help give her peace of mind and to guarantee y’all know how the funds are being disbursed, I will be adding/updating a running ledger on here as the funds are used.
If you want to express sympathy in your own words, help in some way that isn’t a financial contribution, or if you just don’t feel comfortable using GoFundMe, please reach out to Nikki Boyette or Jayke Meek for other options.
Also, please remember to keep Kim in your thoughts and prayers as there is nothing stronger than the power of prayer.

As of 04/15/2023, $503,684.69 has already been billed to insurance by providers. Thank goodness we aren't responsible for anywhere near that total, however, most of our portion has already come due and the bills continue rolling in.
