Miss Wales Fundraiser

My name is Lilly Miles and I'm a Miss Wales 2022 Finalist. I'm really excited to be raising money for Beauty with a purpose! Beauty with a purpose is a charity founded by Julia Morley in 1972 and also was one of the main reasons I decided to do Miss Wales as the charity have been raising money to benefit disadvantaged children all over the world. Hundreds of millions of pounds have been raised and donated to local and international organisations (This money has also been donated to causes such as, neglect, abandonment, hunger and natural disasters.)

For many years I myself have suffered with mental health issues. I've battled depression all throughout my adolescent years, the symptoms of which started showing when I was just 12 years old. Last year I also struggled with OCD due to the increasing anxiety caused by lockdown and isolation. Ive been on anti depressants for nearly a year now and I can honestly say they've changed my life, and I have no shame in saying that! One of my main beliefs in life is that we are not defined by our mental or our physical health but by the choices and actions we make and continually make throughout life. My main reason for taking apart in Miss Wales is to break the stigma behind mental health, to help people who may be suffering and to show them there is no shame in asking for help.

Mental illness has no face, no look, no style, anyone can be effected and currently its estimated that 1 in 4 people are living with a Mental health illness. It can happen to anyone, at anytime in there life, and its time for people to know where they can go to get the help they need.

That's why alongside raising money for beauty with a purpose I will be posting places on my Instagam where you can go and ask for help, or advice, since unfortunately not everyone knows where to get this information. (@Lillymaymiles)
