Gree(n)tings everyone,
My name is Ruby B. Johnson, and I am a Sierra Leone-born naturalized US citizen living the American dream. I am the Founder/CEO of When You Believe Foundation, Inc., an organization committed to the empowerment of all girls and women. Also, I serve as the Media Magician for Gift of Wells, whose mission is providing clean water to rural communities through the creation of wells. My pageant experience include serving as Miss Sierra Leone USA 2012-2014, and Top 7 and High Point Talent Winner at Miss Maryland World 2015. My purpose of getting involved in pageantry is to use this platform to advocate for a cause that benefits our community, as well as show that a woman of substance embodies beauty and brains.
This year, I have the honor of representing the Old Line State as Miss Earth Maryland 2015. I will be competing at the Miss Earth United States pageant for the opportunity to represent the US at Miss Earth pageant. Miss Earth is an annual international pageant promoting environmental awareness. The Miss Earth winner is the spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and other environmental organizations.
Known for its motto, "Beauties for a Cause," Miss Earth titleholders advocate for an environmental platform. I received my undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech in mining engineering and my BFAC initiative is “Bridging The Gap: Miners and Environmentalists Must Work Together for Mother Earth!” The environment is important to both parties, so the goal is to present ways in which they can collaborate and work towards a sustainable future in the mining industry. With my Miss Earth Maryland 2015 School Tour, I provide kindergarten through grade 12-level children mining education lessons and activities, and to inform and educate the general public about the importance of mining in their everyday lives. Since being crowned Miss Earth MD, I have visited schools in the state promoting it. Additionally, I am an active advocate for the recruitment and retention of girls and women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
I will like to have the opportunity to continue what I am doing in my state with my Beauties for a Cause project throughout the nation as Miss Earth United States, but I need financial assistance to achieve my goal to get that title. With your monetary assistance, you will lighten my financial burden which allows me to focus more on preparation for the pageant in Los Angeles, California.
