Missing Persons Case of Alicia Bernice Markovich
Donation protected
We are asking for the publics help with the search and recovery of Alicia Markovich. Alicia's mother, Marice Smith has been left with no choice but to fight this civilly in court on her own. Alicia's case has grown cold over the past 34 years and we are looking for assistance with legal fees, cadaver dogs, and the billboard fund. Alicia's mother deserves to know where her daughters remains are so Alicia can be brought home to rest in peace. Our efforts to have Alicia's case re-examined by police have not been successful. Everyone who knew and loved Alicia knows she did not run away and believe they know who is responsible for her death. Alicia would be turning 50 this February. Please help us bring Alicia home to her mother Marcie. We are appreciative of any assistance we can receive. No mother should ever have to be put through this torment. Alicia's case can be viewed on NCMEC, The Doe Network,
Alicia's Story:
Alicia's mother Marcie Smith had custody of her in 1987 and they resided in Windber, Pennsylvania. On April 26, 1987 Alicia's father picked her up that morning for a visit to his home on Dunn Avenue in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. She and her father had an argument about her school grades, choice of friends, and her mother's request for an increase in child support.
Her father told authorities that Alicia walked out of his residence abruptly and never looked back towards the house. He called after her and told her to return home by 8:00 pm. He believed she was going to a friend's house. Alicia has never been seen or heard from since. She was carrying a pair of purple sunglasses at the time of her disappearance, but left all her other belongings behind. Marcie tried calling her daughter during the day to come home early since the next day was a school day, with no answer. Finally John called Marcie back at 1am. Her father reported her missing the next day.
Alicia was initially classified as a runaway, but her mother stated she had no history of running away, wasn't streetwise and couldn't have survived on her own. In 1990 State Police had termed her disappearance as a suspected homicide. Police eventually concluded Alicia had probably been a victim of foul play, most likely on the same day she was last seen. They do not have any suspects in her case; neither have they ruled anyone out. Alicia's mother also believes her daughter was deliberately murdered and the last person who saw her knows what happened to her.
In October 2000, Alicia's father got a letter saying she had been killed, and her body put in a certain place. The letter was postmarked New Bedford, New Hampshire and had a return address from that city. When police went to the address, the people living there said they had not sent the letter, had no idea who did, had no knowledge of Alicia's disappearance, and had never been to Blairsville. Investigators also searched the location named in the letter for Alicia's body, but found nothing of interest. Authorities subsequently decided the letter was a hoax. Its true author has never been identified.
Alicia was a freshman at Windber Area High School at the time of her disappearance; she was an A/B student and a member of the school's track team. There has been no activity on her bank account or Social Security number since 1987.
Her case remains unsolved...
