Get Matt to outpatient therapy!

There is a group of us friends working on this go fund me on Matt & Nikki's behalf, doing whatever we can to help. The following post/description/story is written by Nikki herself...

On June 5, 2021, Matt and I were having a very normal Saturday. I was out showing a house in the AM for work, and I came home to Matt having spent the morning building me a custom back rest on his motorcycle (I always joked that that’s why I didn’t ride with him more, and was jealous of all his friends wives who had back rests!). Needless to say, I cried when I saw it. That’s the kind of guy Matt is - a creative problem solver who is ALWAYS doing thoughtful things for me (and everyone else, too!). It was a few days before his birthday, so we were excited to get out on the road for a carefree day with friends. It was exactly that and we were all smiles all day, until a 17 year old girl pulled out in front of us and changed our lives in a split second. I have a photograph image in my mind of seeing her pullout that I can’t shake. Matt and I were airlifted to 2 separate hospitals and spent the first 21 days after the accident apart. Those 21 days don’t seem real as I think I was in disbelief of this “new reality” until I was able to physically be with Matt, which is where I went immediately the morning after I was discharged. I have a picture of us from that day - myself in a wheelchair with tears streaming down my face and Matt in a coma, with a million tubes and machines around him.

Fast forward almost 8 months and Matt has been in 4 different hospitals and 2 different rehab settings. I have been with him day in and day out and have been learning from his nurses and therapists along the way on how to best help Matt succeed. He has endured so much, and just continues to fight everyday. He is making slow progress, but progress nonetheless. Thank God! We have a VERY, VERY long road ahead as Matt is presently 100% physically dependent, non-verbal, tube feed, etc. But, as I tell Matt everyday - we are alive, and we were given a 2nd chance for a reason so let’s keep pushing to get better!

Insurance has now been denying any future coverage for in patient therapy and skilled nursing (which Matt 1000% justifiably needs and deserves), so we are now paying a disgusting amount of money out of pocket while we rush to try to get everything modified and ready to bring Matt home. We have the following anticipated purchases/fees quickly approaching and would immensely appreciate anyones generosity they’re able to offer;

- Purchase of a Handicap accessible Van for transportation to and from therapy, DR’s appts, etc.
- Home medications: Ramps, full shower modification, lifts, etc.
- In home care & supplies that may not be covered by insurnace (based on quotes this will be several hundred dollars a day)
- Matt’s feedings (approx. $200/week)
- Plus many other misc. things

Matt and I are overwhelmed by the love and support from everyone around us including those of you we’ve never met. This is one of those things you never think is going to happen to you - but it did, and we are fighting to stay afloat. We love you all, and appreciate your kindness and prayers as well!

The next few weeks/months are going to be an overwhelming transition home, but I will certainly do my best to keep updates coming!
