Mission In Action Kenya Orphanage
Donation protected
Georgia Cole and Blake McGee are about to depart from Australia for several weeks to volunteer at Mission In Action’s (MIA) Baby and Children’s Home in Kenya! This will be Georgia’s third visit in two years and it will be Blake’s first time. Through various fundraising activities like Blake climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for example, they will be raising funds and awareness
Georgia and Blake both a firm believers in passing it forward and as Blake likes to say, “the good you do comes back to you”. Georgia and Blake see this volunteering experience as an opportunity to not only to support the babies and children of MIA who have come from traumatic experiences of neglect and abandonment and to give back to communities that are less fortunate but to also extend this opportunity to raise awareness of what MIA is doing on a daily basis in Kenya.
It is safe to say that we all try to be very mindful of where our donations actually go to and if the donations actually go toward what the organisation says it does. This is one of the fundamental reasons why Georgia and Blake feel so strongly in supporting and volunteering at MIA. MIA is run by Ivan and his wife Dama, both whom live with the children in Kenya. They both sacrifice their time, energy and personal endeavours to provide almost 100 children with a safe and loving home. MIA is a family and this family extends all over the world through the support of sponsors and volunteers. As the Kenyan government does not provide any organisation assistance or funding, MIA runs solely on private donations and sponsorship.
During Georgia’s time volunteering at MIA, she has helped with the monthly food and essential items shop’s for the children, she has collected medication and hygiene products for the 100 odd children and is well aware of the financial struggle to cover these costs on a monthly basis.
While Blake and Georgia are in Kenya, they plan on giving back to community members in a variety of ways. One of which will be by organising food hampers and giving them to families throughout the community. These hampers could potential last a family for 2-3 weeks and include: Rice, Maize flour, self-raising flour, sugar, bread, milk, cooking oil, soap, butter and biscuits. Each hamper costs between $20-25 AUD!
As Blake and Georgia will be spending Christmas and New Years at MIA, they hope to be able to take the children of MIA on fun and exciting outings and activities to make their Christmas holiday one they will remember forever! Blake and Georgia have decided to organise this GoFundMe page for people who would like to support what they are doing at MIA.
Just to clarify and to make it very clear: The money raised from this GoFundMe page will be going towards covering the costs of the community activities (hampers), to cover costs of special outings (like visits to the swimming pool, lunches etc) with the children of MIA and if there is anything left over we plan to donate directly to MIA to cover the monthly expenses. The money raised will NOT go toward covering any of Georgia and Blake’s personal expenses (flights, accommodation, tourist and extra expenses).
