MITCH BARRETT, HE WAS GIVEN TWELVE HOURS TO LIVE
The Doctor said, "Jesus had his hands over Mitch because he should have been dead." Mitch had been in a coma for about ten days on a ventilator. Reading over Mitch's charts he said, "I can't explain Mitch's recovery other than a miracle."
  • We are thankful for a compassionate and mighty God and everyone who has been so encouraging and supportive in words, deeds and prayers. This includes our family and extended family, our church community both past and present and the many Doctors and Nurses that have done so much.

OUR PRESENT URGENT NEED
This week he had a CT scan of his liver scheduled, however, because we do not have the $225 co-pay, it was not done. Accurate diagnosis is required to develop a treatment plan.
  • Mitch has Medicare and Anthem Blue Cross; however deductibles and copays are required to keep his treatment on track. Out of pocket copays for medical treatment ($10000) and medicine ($5000) are needed to keep up treatment and diagnostics. Every gift big or small, every prayer and good vibe you send is well appreciated and helpful. Thank you so much in advance.

MITCH'S FAMILY
With EIGHT children, THIRTEEN grandchildren, ONE great grand, SIX DOGS and his wife Cheryl, Mitch is a Patriarch in every sense!

Mitch and Cheryl moved from California to Georgia almost two years ago. Mitch was already on permanent disability.
  • Cheryl works for Georgia Hope as a consultant, supervising visits with parents and their children that are in foster care. She also provides parenting classes for those whose children are in foster care.
  • Due to the time required to support Mitch and the distance to the hospital, Cheryl has been unable to work consistently. Her current plan is to work 3 days a week and reserve 2 days to support Mitch with his medical appointments and care.

OUR STORY, WHAT HAPPENED? FROM CHERYL (WIFE)
On June 11th, 2023 after being sick for about 4 days at home I took Mitch to the emergency room in Eastman Georgia because he was not feeling well. Once we got there, they started treating him for an infection. He went into shock, I guess the infection went to his blood and turned into sepsis.
  • They transferred him to the critical care unit in Dublin about 45 minutes away from our home and started treating him there. They also identified he has an acute kidney injury, a liver Mass, and critical illness myopathy. As well as PAF which is paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, and V-Tach. They put him in a medically induced coma and intubated him. At that time they gave him about 12 hours to live.

But with a lot of prayer and the grace of God. He lived and stayed in a coma for about 10 days before they were able to wake him up and get the breathing tube out. It was slow going at first but after about 5 weeks on the ICU floor, he was able to move to rehabilitation.
  • He had to learn to walk and talk, to feed himself. as well as any other daily functions he needed to do.

While in the hospital they identified a mass on his liver and without a biopsy, they identified it as cancer. We wanted to get him home before we dealt with that.
  • He's been home for almost 3 weeks and is doing better every day. tomorrow we had our CT scan of his liver, however, because we do not have the $225 co-pay, they will not do it. I suggested to the doctor we should just go with the CT from the hospital and go from there, then the biopsy, and then the treatment plan.

At this time Cheryl has not been able to work for the last 6 weeks and because she is a contract employee, she couldn't claim disability or family leave. So, between the co-pays and the living expenses we are up to our neck in financial debt.
  • Next week I'll go back to work 3 days a week so I can do his appointments the other two. I hate to reach out, but anything would help. Most of all your prayers. Mitch is a good man and with God on our side, we are ready to fight the good fight. God Bless You All.
