Mitch Petrus Scholarship Fund

On July 18, 2019, Mitch Petrus passed away from a heat stroke. Growing up on a farm in a very small town, all the way to a Super Bowl Champion, Mitch impacted so many lives along the way. He had a personality that was larger-than-life itself. He didn’t meet a stranger and always saw the good in people. His laugh was one of a kind and spread out across any room with a personality as big as he was.
Sports were a big part of his life growing up. His larger-than-life personality could be seen both on and off the field. Mitch grew up with the dream to be an Arkansas Razorback. He was told he wouldn’t make it, but for those that knew him, knew he had a determination that wasn’t to be bet against. He dedicated himself to his goal, and could be found dragging a tire around the practice field or hitting the weights, even if he was the only one there. Being from a small town, his talents went unnoticed by many colleges, but that didn’t stop his determination. He had finally been given the chance to prove himself when he was offered a walk-on position with the Arkansas Razorbacks. With his intensity and dedication, he did not disappoint. He made himself extremely vital to the Division I school he dreamed of going to and was offered a scholarship the very next semester. Many would consider this a panicle of achievements, but he didn’t stop there. He kept his dedication strong and brought it all every single play. His hard work brought tremendous success. In 2010, the New York Giants selected Mitch in the fifth round of the NFL draft. He went on to play 2 seasons for the Giants and then reached the achievement that only an elite few actually do – a Super Bowl Champion.
Mitch’s dedication, perseverance, and hard work that led to his success made him a hometown hero. He was an inspiration to so many. His life was cut short, but his legacy will live on. We will be setting up a scholarship in his name. All donations received will be put towards this scholarship. This is an opportunity to help Mitch’s memory live on in helping others reach their dream.
