Mitchell Rawson Medical Fundraiser

Donation protected
We all know Mitchell Rawson for his huge smile, engaging personality and his tenacity. Since coming to Canada as an infant with a condition of Cerebral Palsy we have watched Mitch overcome many hurdles and grow into the fine young man he is today and are so proud of him for all he has accomplished.

In early summer, at 22 years old Mitchell was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (T-LBL), an aggressive fast-growing type of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma which most frequently affects young adult men. Of the treatment options available for this type of cancer, Mitchy was a candidate for chemotherapy treatment and possibly stem cell transplant, and/or radiation.

The diagnosis and treatment for Mitchell was quick thanks to his doctor and the medical teams at OT and Juravinski. Mitchell was responsive to the initial treatments and appeared to be making progress in some areas to reduce the cancer. Unfortunately, there has been additional spreading in other areas of his body and he now has to undergo even more intensive treatment. While the chemotherapy is primarily covered by OHIP, some of the critical drugs are not covered by either OHIP or existing family insurance coverage. The estimate provided for this specific out of pocket drug is in excess of $10,000. This and the additional expenses incurred during this time are an additional stress for the family.

For anyone that has been close to a cancer patient you know how overwhelming such a diagnosis is, understanding the disease and how it develops and affects your body, understanding the prognosis and treatment plan and the myriad side affects that have to be endured. Aside from this devastating diagnosis, due to the Covid pandemic the family were not permitted to be with Mitchell for his first few weeks in hospital. While Mitch is dealing with the numerous and debilitating side effects of the chemo therapy, he is fighting hard and remains positive.
Mitch and the family have a long road ahead to fight this disease and to help him deal with and recover from the therapy. It is truly heartwarming to them to feel the love and care from family and friends, near and far.

As many have inquired how to help further, this fund is an effort to contribute to Mitch and the family to help with all the additional expenses in these circumstances, anything to alleviate some of the financial burden. Any donation is appreciated, no amount too little. On behalf of the D’s Girls Cancer Support Group we thank you in advance.

Here’s to the road to recovery and defeating cancer!!
