Aloha,

Our son Elias (13 years of age now) was diagnosed with Meningitis at 14 days old at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 16, 2006. We was informed by the doctor that he had only 12 hours to live and was placed in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. It was heart wrenching for my husband and I to hear such information, let alone to process the matter after carrying him for 9 months, giving birth to him, and then being told this information. He laid in an incubator with tubes attached to his fragile body and he was later moved into a private area of that unit where close family members visited. Our faith ignited our hope as we fought for his life through prayers. Fast forward to this present day and we have been blessed to have our miracle with us for the past 13 years. However, the journey to this point has not been easy encountering medical issues that has tried to steal his quality of life each step of the way.

During the past years Elias has gone through physical therapy to help develop use of the right side of his body, has had many MRI visits to monitor fluids and activity of his brain as it was causing seizures, and has had surgeries and remedies periodically to help relieve this issue.

Recently, Elias's seizures has increased and we flew him over to visit the Stanford Children’s Medical Hospital to do some testing to pin point exactly where the seizures are happening within his brain. He is a good candidate for a new surgery that will help him become seizure free. Shawn & I desire to be by his side for this upcoming surgery in one month and we are raising funds to support this mission. We have been by his side since day one, together, finding quality of life for Elias and we desire to be by his side through this upcoming surgery that will increase his chances of having just that.

Your support is greatly appreciated and we are calling on Angels to help us in this leg of Elias's journey. We welcome anything you are able to support with during this fundraiser, especially your prayers. We hope to raise $5,000 towards this mission of ours.

Mahalo,
Shawn & Michelle Miyata
