Slum Teaching in Delhi, India

"We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future." - Franklin Delano Roosevelt
This February I will be venturing off to Delhi, India for 3 months to be a volunteer with the organization International Volunteer HQ as a part of their slum teaching program. This program provides the less fortunate children of Delhi with new experiences, basic education, and support. IVHQ has set up makeshift classrooms in the slums which are led by volunteers from all over the world.
This program is designed to give these children a chance at a better life. Because their families cannot afford to send their children to school, children often end up going to work with their parents, beg and/or perform on the streets for money. Children who are unable to receive an education are at a higher risk for crime/prostitution. Basic education can change their lives.
A few months ago my reign as Miss Empire State American Nation came to an end. During my time I participated in several different types of community service and outreach. It was something that I loved doing and really meant a lot to me to help whenever I could. I have always been interested in doing Social Work and my time as Miss Empire State inspired me and made me want to continue expanding the horizons of service work. It's important to protect and support those who are vulnerable and less fortunate as well as provide them with the knowledge and tools to succeed and fight for their rights.
I have decided to spend 3 months in Delhi to get a better understanding of the culture, provide my services the best I can, and to take as much out of this experience as possible.
While I am saving money each week to be able to pay for this trip, I will not be able to pay for the program on my own. Money that is raised will be put towards flights, program fees, a visa, vaccinations not covered by insurance, orientation, and travel insurance. There are other expenses that I am hoping to fully pay for myself and put as much towards these expenses as possible.
Any money raised that ends up not being put towards expenses and fees will be used as a donation for the program itself.
Any sort of help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you all for your time and your consideration.
I cannot wait to share with everyone my experience.
