MLK Stands with Standing Rock
Donation protected
On November 18th 2016, staff and students from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Early College will be heading up to the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota to stand in solidarity with many Americans to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline. Students have investigated the environmental, cultural, and social justice issues surrounding the protest and strongly feel that now is the time to act and stand. This is current real life, it’s not history yet.
At Oceti Sagowin, The Great Sioux Nation camp, students will participate in activities with other youth from Denver. These activities include art projects, signage for the water protectors, daily camp chores, helping in the kitchens, journaling and documentation of their experiences and the experiences of others. Staff will participate in direct action and protesting on the front lines as well as supporting students and other campers back at camp. The temperatures in North Dakota during the day will be in the 40’s to 50’s in the day and freezing and below at night.
We would appreciate your tax deductible donations or contributions to this effort. 100% of all donations will used to purchase goods (subzero clothing, food, firewood) for all water protectors including our MLK protectors. If you are able to donate, or if you have questions, please contact us!
