Honduras Mission Trip
Donation protected
This summer I am joining an AHMEN mission team. AHMEN (Alabama Honduras Medical Education Network) is a non-profit organization whose work goes beyond just “charity” in Honduras, and I need your help to make a difference.
Our team will work with a group of 50 community leaders training to become health agents in their communities. We will provide supplemental education on clean water technology and other topics these community leaders have chosen, in over 20 communities. More babies die each year in Honduras from waterborne illnesses than people living and fighting in warzones. I want to be a part of solving this horrific problem.
Since our AHMEN team will include medical doctors, we will be offering free medical care while we are there. This is the only time many Hondurans will have the opportunity to receive any medical treatments.
We will also join a group of women committed to working their way out of the La Ceiba city dump community of Los Laureles. AHMEN partners with a group of mothers training as artisans. They design and sell jewelry as a stepping-stone to building a better life for their families. Our team will help the group formalize their business as they pursue fair trade certification. I'm really excited to join a truly life changing project.
I will also be teaching public health to the Honduran society this summer. I will lead a discussion about the needs of water filtration and will also be conducting rapid water tests to determine what types of bacteria are present in their water. We will be taking community agents with us when we conduct these tests, so that they will know how to test for water contamination on their own as well. At the end of the trip, we hope that the community agents will have learned why and how to test the water. This trip is of importance not only to Honduran community growth, but to my educational experience as well.
Every man, woman, and child should have clean drinking water available to them at all times. No one should have to live with the worry that these Honduran mothers do each day. No one should have to live in such poverty.
Please help me raise money to fund my trip and pay for supplies, such as water filters and medical equipment. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. I know it will be life changing for both me and the people we help in Honduras.
Thank you for your help!
