Debbie's Fight: Gone, Not Forgotten

Our mom, our rock.....the most giving and wonderful person you could meet. So full of life and energy, now robbed from her by a horrific disease we know as cancer. She was a vibrant lady, so full of life and love. Rode her motorcycle everyday that she could, bartended at the American Legion, ran her business helping to teach people how to paint and enjoy it! Last year on April 12th, 2016, our lives forever changed. She felt a mass on her right side that prompted her to call her primary care physician who saw her early the next day. She had a CT scan in the afternoon on 4/13/2016....and there it was, a 15cm mass as well as several other lesions. A CT guided biopsy was attempted and we waited for results which never came. I reached out to a surgical oncologist at Shadyside hospital and she was taken to the OR on 5/5 for tumor debulking. The pathology returned a rare form of ovarian cancer, Malignant Mixed Mullerian Tumor (MMMT). She then received her first chemotherapy on June 30th and was able to be there for the birth of her 3rd grandchild on July 3rd. She made it thru 6 cycles of chemo only to be told on December 19th, the cancer had returned. She underwent a 2nd tumor debulking and HIPEC (hot chemotherapy directly in the abdomen) on Jan 13,2017. She recovered well and was able to enjoy a vacation with her husband of 46 years (It will be 47 years in September) in Punta Cana for 10 glorious days with some money we raised for her from a Chinese auction at the annual Christmas Party. She started not feeling well soon after her return and had a CT scan on 3/31/2017.....there it was again and back with a vengeance. She was geared up to start chemo again ASAP but was admitted to the hospital on Sat 4/15 with a small bowel obstruction caused by one of the tumors. The plan now is for radiation (hoping to shrink the tumor to relieve the obstruction), a PEG tube (to help drain her belly) and TPN which is IV nutrition since she cannot eat, all in hopes of relieving the discomfort and getting her home to start the next line therapy hoping to shrink the tumors and keep them in check! The problem with that plan is....there is a long road to getting out of the hospital to even get that next therapy and then we'll have to see in insurance will cover it and if it doesn't, we have to pray that we can get the funds somewhere to pay for it (it's a very promising treatment but is more than $30,000 per treatment) all the while my mom has been out of work since her diagnosis and my dad has been limited as he is taking her to appointments and chemo and taking care of her after surgeries.....this is where you all come in! Please help us help her to get the therapies that she needs to hopefully beat this horrific disease or at least alleviate some of the costs related to her ongoing medical treatment. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this and thank you in advance for your donations or just even your prayers.
