On 7-9-2018, the day after my 25th birthday I said goodbye to my father at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

My father came to the United States when he was a few years older than I am right now. He was always top of his class in college while studying mechanical engineering and worked so hard for the chance to study and work abroad. My dad never had any health issues and the death was so sudden. He was 51 years old and lived such an accomplished and successful life.

Growing up, I always saw how hard my dad worked to provide for us. We had each other as a family and I grew up in a small apartment in Alief. We loved Houston and stayed here.

I came to the U.S. at 4 years old and grew up as an only child until 2013 when my brother William was born. William is now 5 years old and misses his dad everyday. They were best friends. While my father was alive he invested in our education. During his free time he loved to golf and in prior years we got to travel to several places- including France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, China, Puerto Rico and various cities across the United States. My dad was a self-made man. In recent years, he continued his education as he read countless books, attended seminars and went to night-time classes on top of his full-time job.

For all these years, my father has set an example of everything I want to be. Thank you for having such a great relationship with me, so I can find strength and peace with death. Thank you for showing me hard work pays off and the need to challenge myself. Thank you for showing me that continuing education never fails us. You believed in me and always told me to apply my strengths and live life with grace. I would not even be close to who I am today without you as a guide to build my foundation. I love you and miss you everyday. May your love and impact be eternal. May you rest in peace with our Heavenly Father forever.

Love Yumeng (Jessica),
Your first daughter
