MND Guy's Beyond Muscles Fundraiser

Donation protected
I need help as living with MND is difficult and the MND solutions are expensive so please donate and share this fundraiser. I am a prisoner in my 3rd floor flat because my weakened legs cannot get up or down the 3 flights of steep stairs and there is no lift.

I desperately need to move to a ground floor flat that has wheelchair access because I need a powered wheelchair to be able to leave the flat and enjoy the fresh air of Nottingham's green spaces again. (this is me before MND)

My name is Guy Williams (a man from England) and in my 48th year of life on this planet it was confirmed, after lots of NHS testing, that I have Motor Neurone Disease with limb onset and bulbar dysfunction. MND causes my muscles all through my body to waste away making even simple daily tasks such as preparing food incredibly difficult. But there are tools which can help.

The muscles in my legs are so weak that I have had 12 serious falls in the past 6 months causing me pain and injuries to my hands, face, chin, mouth, and legs. The steep stairs are now beyond my weakened legs meaning I am trapped and isolated in my flat.

MND is causing me to miss the simple things in life such as being able to visit friends and family, to go to the shops, to go out for a coffee and food, to go out in nature and get fresh air. All of which are blocked from me at the moment because I am trapped in my third floor flat.

Unfortunately, MND has also impacted other parts of my body too. My hands are severely weakened, and my voice is failing. My mental health is suffering badly but I’m trying to be positive and what is keeping me going during these dark and difficult days is the hope that a ground floor flat will enable me to have a powered wheelchair which will give me freedom and confidence again.

My friends and family, and the local NHS and support teams have all been amazing and are doing everything they can to help me move to an adapted flat, where I will no longer be a prisoner in my own home. But the move is proving to be expensive, which is why I need your help to donate to this fundraiser.

I have found a ground floor flat, but it is not wheelchair accessible at the moment. The step into the back door is too high and so it needs adaptations. So, if anyone knows or is a builder, a carpenter or someone who could help with adaptions to the property such as a ramp, then please do get in contact as your help would be amazing because making it accessible would set me free.

MND has, and will continue to, create a lot of additional expenses for me. Therefore, if I can raise funds via this GoFundMe page, I will also use the money to pay for all those additional MND costs, including alternative treatments, disability aids and suitable furniture to enable me to continue to live independently. At 48, I am too young to move into supported living as 55 is the minimum age for supported housing.

Please donate and share my GoFundMe page on your social media pages and share with your friends and colleagues as my previous Facebook page was hacked and disabled and my 3,500 friends and contacts were lost.

Thank you and much love to you all x
MND Guy

Some of the very kind words of support;

“Please… spare a moment to watch this video. My lovely friend Mnd Guy Williams has been battling for some time with MND. I didn’t know due to him being off Facebook and being highly isolated in his current accommodation. He’s raising money to help him move to a ground floor flat and get the equipment and care he needs to survive day to day. Guy and I spent many hours conspiring and planning wellbeing workshops for others to benefit from back in different lives. Such a kind and compassionate person who now needs that kindness from others. Please donate what you can or if you can’t please share the post. Sending love to you Guy and anyone living with this debilitating condition. X x x” Kimmie, Nottingham

“Sad to hear that my friend Guy, who many in Nottingham will know from his very sociable and creative-entrepreneurial time here, has recently been diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
This is a difficult and rare progressive neurodegenerative disorder that acts very fast, leading to decreased control of muscle movement and eventually paralysis (NHS and peer-reviewed sources).
I met several people living with MND as a child through my dad's work, so I am not surprised to see how much of an impact it's having on Guy.
He has at the same time earlier this year had his old Facebook account with 3.5k friends hacked so is starting from scratch in this urgent appeal...
Please spare a moment to watch his GoFundMe, learn more about MND, and support him if you can as he moves into a new ground floor flat and buys needed equipment.
Even lending a like or a care emoji here could really help” Adam Pickering, Nottingham

“My old mate Guy could do with our help so if you could spare 5 mins to watch his video and hopefully donate to his cause that would be massively appreciated.
Guy is a top bloke and will be attacking MND like he used to tackle me at football.
Thanks so much in advance.” Chris, Yorkshire
