Support Mobile Dentistry, Education, and Work in Nicaragua
My name is Jeffrey Landi and in 2019 I built a home in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. I immediately wanted to give back to this beautiful and difficult place, so I met with the leadership of the local hospital to understand their challenges and needs. Together, we created the first of its kind mobile dental program in 2020 called Sonrisas Felices (Happy Smiles) to bring much needed dental services (consultations, cleanings, extractions, cavity fillings) and education to Nicaraguans in remote villages.
We do 3 clinics PER WEEK out in the field, including school visits where we not only educate kids on oral health and distribute dental kits but also have the approval, with in-person parental consent, to perform needed procedures on the kids at the schools. Sonrisas Felices has served over 15,000 people so far!!
The funds are used to support fuel for our vehicles, dentist/assistant salary, dental supplies (resins, toothbrushes/paste), and maintenance of mobile dental equipment. We also support sending patients to private clinics when advanced care is necessary.
Oral health is a leading marker of life longevity and public health, and we are working furiously to address this need in the poorest communities and are MAKING a difference! We need help to sustain this amazing project.
Sonrisas Felices also provides full-ride, 4-5 year public university scholarships to promising girls of low income families. We believe, and the data is clear across the world, that there is no more effective way to lift up a family and community at large than through education for girls. We are looking to raise funds to provide more scholarships to deserving girls who would otherwise not have a shot at higher education. Sonrisas Felices sponsors three girls currently and is looking to add another in 2025.
Oral health for the masses, education for individuals. That's our focus!
Please help us continue this momentum and transform oral health in the wider community of San Juan del Sur!
