Mobilize Melanie
After fainting at her home, our beloved friend, Melanie Looser Miller, suffered a severe C4 spinal cord injury resulting in paralysis from her shoulders down. She was admitted to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta on April 23rd; and after two very challenging months, she is now
home with her children providing the care she needs.
Her children, McKayla and Jordan, noted an immediate need to purchase an accessible van for doctor’s
appointments, physical and occupational therapy appointments, and beginning the path to as much future independence as possible. They have also expressed a need for additional equipment to help Melanie keep the momentum of healing moving forward. (Adaptive
equipment such as a tray designed to attach to her wheelchair to support a phone, tablet or equipment, or a specialty air bed.)
During the two months at Shepherd Center, Melanie worked diligently with a team of physical therapists, occupational therapists, and
other therapists to help her recover as much function as possible. Since her recent discharge to home, she is working hard to adapt.
McKayla and Jordan noted that their mom made impressive progress at Shepherd Center and showed remarkable determination and
courage and they want her to have the tools needed to continue to maximize her progress.
Many are asking how to help Melanie who has given so much to all of us. Several of Melanie’s friends established this GoFundMe account.
It is the best way we know to help Melanie as she faces these new life challenges and mounting expenses. We hope you will find it in your
hearts to give generously.
