The Hare's Bride: A Modern Fairytale Film

A Modern Fairytale Comes to Life in Northern Arizona!
We are senior film students at Northern Arizona University. We began pre-production on our short film, "The Hare’s Bride" last Spring, and we begin filming in March 2019. Your contribution will help us bring the magic of our film from script to screen.
The Hare’s Bride:
Our film is adapted from a Brother’s Grimm fairytale of the same name, in which a clever Hare tries to trick a young woman into marrying him. She must use her own wit to escape him!
In our story, we capture the whimsical magic of the fairytale through colorful, vintage and Victorian-inspired set designs. We have updated the language to reflect contemporary life, while maintaining a story-book atmosphere.
We have also created a world of magical realism by marrying the human world to the world of fairytale creatures. This style is most distinct through our villain, The Hare. He is both a man and a hare – existing somewhere in between.
Our Characters:
Our protagonist: Allura, 19, - A clever young woman who seeks a life beyond what grows in her mother’s garden.
Our villain: The Hare, 25 - Charming at first, but as Allura comes to know him, his true nature is revealed. Worst of all, his eyes are too bright.
The Bridesmaids: These hares have been waiting for a wedding for ages. They are dressed in Sunday’s best, but openly disapprove of the bride-to-be. They are judgmental, critical but somehow still the life of the party.
Creating Our World:
Our Production Designer, Chaz Walker, is designing an original mask for The Hare. In addition, he is developing several rabbit-like ear and nose prosthetics that will transform our actors and actress from humans to hares.
Through Airbnb, we are coordinating with Northern Arizona locals to rent set locations. Our Assistant Production Designer, AnnaLee Lacobelle, is designing several floral creations, everything from center-pieces to hats, to create a spring-themed sense of wonder.
Your contributions will assist us in bringing our characters and sets to life. In addition, your contributions will also help us compensate our actors, actresses, and crew for their time and travel, as well as help feed everyone on set!
Our Time Line:
February 26: Our GoFundMe concludes
March 1st: Filming begins
March 10th: Filming concludes, post-production begins
After post-production, we prepare for film festival season!
May 5th: NAU Student Film Festival
